Repair of septal perforation by free inferior turbinate mucoperiosteal flap combined with fibroblast growth factor

Objective To discuss the effect of free inferior turbinate mucoperiosteal flap combined with fibroblast growth factor in repairing the septal perforation.Methods The mucosa and periosteum around perforation of nasal septum were separated by means of submucous correction of nasal septum.Some mucosa of inferior turbinate was cut down and fixed in the mucosa bag and periosteum bag of nasal septum by using medical glue,and then the perforation was covered completely.Fibroblast growth factor was also locally applied.Results The perforations of nasal septums in 21 patients were closed 4-10 weeks after operation.I-period healing of perforation of nasal septum was achieved in 8 patients,Ⅱ-period healing of perforation of nasal septum was achieved in 15 patients.Perforation of nasal septum did not recur and the follow-up time ranged from 6 to 12 months.Conclusion Repair of septal perforation by free inferior turbinate mucoperiosteal flap has advantages of convenience,less injury,no reject reaction,high survival.Meanwhile,mucoperiosteal flap fixed by medical glue is easy to be manipulated,which doesn't require suturing.Moreover,basic fibroblast growth factor is helpful for the repair of the local wound after operation.
