Abstract

A strain of aerobic bacteria degrading benzene was isolated, from contaminated soil and was identified as Pseudomonas sp..The strain could grow and degrade benzene at a concentration of 20 mg/L under temperature 5~35 ℃ and pH 5~9.The optimum conditions were as follows: temperature 25 ℃,pH 7~8,shaking rate 120 r/min.The results showed that the benzene at a concentration lower than 300 mg/L could be degraded by the organism.
