Expression of Cyclin D_1 and p16 proteins in early invasive carcinoma of cervix in young women

Abstract

Objective To investigate the expression of Cyclin D1 and p16 proteins in cervical intraepithelial neoplasia and early invasive cervical carcinoma in young women.Methods Immunohistochemical method was used to detect the expression of Cyclin D1 and p16 proteins in 30 specimens of normal cervical tissue,80 specimens of cervical intraepithelial neoplasia(40 cases of grade I,20 grade Ⅱ and 20 grade Ⅲ)and 30 cases of early invasive cervical carcinoma in young women.Results The expression of Cyclin D1 and p16 was low in normal cervical tissue;and increased remarkably from cervical intraepithelial neoplasia Ⅱ to Ⅲ,and then to early invasive cervical carcinoma(P0.01).There were significant differences in the expression of Cyclin D1 between cervical intraepithelial neoplasiaⅠand the normal cervical tissue or between cervical intraepithelial neoplasia Ⅱ and early invasive cervical carcinoma(P0.05).Compared with the controls expression of p16 protein was increased in cervical intraepithelial neoplasia Ⅱ(P0.05).The expression of p16 in early invasive cervical carcinoma was higher than that in cervical intraepithelial neoplasia Ⅰ(P0.05).No correlation was found between Cyclin D1 and p16 expressions in early invasive cervical carcinoma(P0.05).Conclusion The results suggest that over-expression of Cyclin D1 and p16 might be involved in the carcinogenesis of cervix.
