Abstract
The existence of God and evil is one of the key questions of philosophy in the Middle Ages. The problem of evil is often used to refute the perspective of the existence of God.And in response this censure,a theory is established to assert its existence which is nominated as Theodicy. In the masterpiece DE MALO of St.Thomas Aquinas',it concentrates in clarifying the essence and cause of evil.Through analyzing and reconstructing St.Thomas Aquinas' argument,I get two main points to his Theodicy:first, the evil is interpreted as the privation of particular good to make non-entity to the concept of evil, and so as to abolish the ontological status of evil.Second, the explanation of the relation between free will and evil is that it is impossible to give a creature freewill which always acts properly and avoids evil. The essence of free will is with which one can opt. Therefore, the existence of God and evil in the world is compatible. The problem of evil is not a reason to refute the existence of God.
