Abstract

Objective To isolate the crude polysaccharide from Prunella vulgaris L.and study its anti-oxidant activity.Methods A DEAE-52 anion exchange column was used to isolate the crude polysaccharide.The purity and molecular weights were estimated by a HPGPC method.Antioxidant activity of the crude polysaccharide and its fractions were evaluated through their capability of scavenging DPPH·、ABTS+and·OH radicals in vitro.Results The crude polysaccharide could be effectively separated by the DEAE-52 anion exchange column,and five fractions PPV2,PPV3,PPV4,PPV5 and PPV6 were obtained.Their molecular weights were 27 133,58 035,243 108,2 725 210 and 3 023 430.The crude polysaccharide and its fractions showed significant effects on scavenging DPPH·、ABTS+ and ·OH radicals.Conclusion DEAE-52 anion exchange column chromatography is suitable for separating polysaccharide from Prunella vulgaris L.,which has potent antioxidant activity.
