Abstract
Objective To explore the effect of the extracts of barley on regulating serum lipid in rats. Methods Sixty male SD rats were randomly divided into five groups by TC level: basic diet control, hyperlipidemia model control and three experimental groups in which the doses of extracts of barley were 0.23 g/kg.bw,0.45 g/kg.bw,and 1.35 g/kg.bw,respectively.After orally administering for 30 days, serum total cholesterol(TC),triglyceride(TG) and high density lipoprotein cholesterol(HDL-C) were determined. Results The TC and TG levels were significantly decreased in the groups of 0.45 g/kg.bw and 1.35 g/kg.bw.There were statistically significant differences in TC and TG levels between hyperlipidemia model control group and the groups of 0.45 g/kg.bw and 1.35 g/kg.bw(P0.05). Conclusion Extracts of barley can regulate serum lipid in rats.
