Abstract
Objective To investigate the expression difference of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF)between lung cancer and lung benign disease, and its relation to clinical characteristics and prognosis of non-small cell lung cancer(NSCLC),and to research the possible role of VEGF in the growth of lung can- cer. Methods The expression of VEGF and microvascular density(MVD)were detected in 60 lung cancer tissues and 30 lung benign disease tissues after operation by immunohistochemical method and put up statisti- cal analysis. Results The positive rate of VEGF expression(63%)and MVD(45.13±10.27)in lung cancer tissues were both higher than those in lung benign disease tissues(27%,33±6.49)(P0.05,P0.01).The posi- tive rate of VEGF expression and MVD were significantly related to lymphatic metastasis(P0.05,P0.01) and TNM stage(P0.05,P0.01).MVD was remarkably higher in VEGF(+)carcinoma tissues than that in VEGF(-)carcinoma tissues(P0.05).By survival analysis, survival duration had remarkable negative correla- tion with the expression of VEGF(+)(P0.01).By cox proportional hazard model analysis, the expression of VEGF were considered the independent predictors for the prognosis of NSCLC.Conclusion The expression of VEGF was significantly related to clinical characteristics and prognosis of NSCLC.It played an important role in the development of lung cancer.
