Prognostic implication of VEGF expression on patients in stage-I non-small cell lung cancer

Abstract

Objective:To investigate the relationship between VEGF expression,angiogenesis and prognosis on stage-Ⅰ non-small cell lung cancer(NSCLC).Methods:The expression of VEGF,MVD marked by CD34 in NSCLC were detected in 70 stage-Ⅰ NSCLC and 30 normal lung tissues as control by immunohistochemical method.Results:High VEGF expression was seen in 41 patients,low VEGF expression was seen in 29 patients.Expression of VEGF was significantly higher in cancer tissues than that in normal lung tissues;There was significantly difference of MVD between high VEGF expresson lung cancer(36.39±19.78) and low VEGF expresson lung cancer(21.67±14.76);The 5-year survival rate in patients with high VEGF expression(40.0%) was much lower than that in patients with low VEGF expression(77.5%),and VEGF expression was a independent prognostic factor in stage-Ⅰ NSCLC(RR=3.51,P=0.007).Conclusion:Detection of VEGF expression may help to predict the prognosis of patients with stage-Ⅰ NSCLC and guide the postoperation adjuvent therapy.
