Abstract

Objective To evaluate the safety and clinical efficiency of percutaneous coronary intervention in elderly patients with coronary artery disease. Methods 173 patients aged≥70 years(elderly group) who underwent percutaneous coronary intervention were compared with 134 patients aged70 years(non-elderly group) in lesion characteristics of coronary artery, successful rates, severe complications and the follow-up results. Results Comparing the technical success rates of percutaneous coronary intervention and the in-hospital death rate(99% and 0.00% in the elderly group vs 98% and(1.49%)in the non-elderly group),it showed no significant difference(P0.05) and complication occurrences in coronary artery and peripheral arteries between two groups did not also.Because the lesion of coronary artery of the elderly group were more severe than that of the non-elderly,stenting rate of the elderly group was higher than that of the non-elderly group. The occurrences of severe heart attack had not significant difference between two group during 6~24 months of the follow-up.Conclusion Percutaneous coronary intervention would be a safe effective manager for elderly patients.
