A Discussion on the Symbolic Meaning of English and Chinese Color Words

Abstract

There are many words in the two different languages---English and Chinese----to express various colors. However, besides the basic meanings, they have got other symbolic meanings because of different cultures and psychology of two nations. By explaining some color words---red,white, black,etc, This paper presents a comparative analysis of their symbolic meanings in different background.
