Abstract

Objective To observe the effect of the long-term inhalation of salmeterol and fluticasone propionate powder on the lung function and quality of life of stable phase moderate to severe chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases(COPD) patients. Methods Fifty patients with stable COPD were randomly divided into two groups, patients in treatment group were given salmeterol and fluticasone propionate powder 1 smoke, twice a day for long-term;while the patients in control group were given salmeterol and fluticasone propionate powder only in the acute exacerbation of COPD.After one year, lung function, the exponent of dyspnea, the times of acute episode and the average number of hospitalized days were compared. Results After one year, compared with the control group,FEV1 and FVC of the treatment group were significantly improved.Dyspnea of the treatment group were significantly improved. The number of acute episodes and hospital stay of the treatment group were less than the control group. Conclusion Long-term inhalation of salmeterol and fluticasone propionate powder can improve lung function and quality of life of the stable moderate to severe COPD patients.
