Abstract
The definition of arbitrariness and iconicity as well as different scholars' opinions are discussed.Both theories can exist in the same unity: semiotic arbitrariness can mainly be evidenced words,whereas iconicity mainly in sentences,paragraphs and passages,both are complementary to each other.
