Abstract
The catalytic effect of Cu(Ⅱ) on the decolorizing reaction reached from the oxidation of methyl violet with potassius bromat in a potassium hydrogen phthalate-hydrochloric acid medium was found. The optimal conditions influencing the rate of the reaction were obtained. A new catalytic spectrophotometric method for the determination of trace copper was thus developed. The linear range of 0.35ug/L was obtained for Cu(Ⅱ). The method has been used to determine trace copper in samples with satisfactory results. The relative standard deviation is 0.52%- 3.08%.
