Secondary implantation of hydroxyapatite prosthesis

Objective Retrospectively review and analyze the clinical application of secondary implantation of hydroxyapatite prosthesis. Methods The 10 cases after enucleation of eyeball and the 8 cases after evisceration of orbit had been received different operation program during secondary implant surgery. Results The 18 cases were found to be successful after following up for 5-18 months, none of these cases had been exposure, infection, aversion and fixation. Conclusions HA is a good implant material of reconstruction of the socket. Secondary implantation with autogenous or heterogeneous multilayer sclera covering HA can obviously diminish complication of funnel socket and conjunctival stenotic after enucleation of eyeball and evisceration of orbit. With good and safe and simple program in orbit cosmesis, it can be widely used at basic-level hospital.
