To Discover History in the Miao Areas:Preface to Turning Chieftains into Government Officials in Miao Area

During the Yongzheng Era of the Qing Dynasty,exploitation and colonization were widely promoted in the Miao area,which was actually an re-order construction in the name of turning Miao chieftains into government officials.The Miao area,changed and reconstructed because of the royal enlightenment,had realized the national transformation process of turning the Barbarian Miao into Civilized Miao and Civilians and then Residents.It had also realized the interior inland transformation process from a Barbarian Area into a Civilized Area,from a frontier region into an interior area,accomplishing the state unification in a barbarian area.The study of the transformation process of the Miao area should apply as much as possible to the requirments of bifurcated history,paying attentions to the long-term complicated interactions between the state and the area.The re-discovery of the Miao history with the living and vivid local features can be positive to the establishment of a regional study descipline-the Study on the Qingshui River Valley.
