Abstract

China′s consumption rate and consumption structure have the following characteristics, considered from the angle of macro economic operation: too high capital formation rate and too low ultimate consumption rate, too high government consumption rate and too low resident consumption rate, rising urban resident consumption level and slowly rising rural resident consumption level, widening gap in consumption expense between high income class and low income class, and between residents in developed areas and less-developed areas. This paper points out that to modify the economic growth model,a shift should be made from investment and foreign trade orientation to consumption orientation.Governments should raise resident income to boost consumption rate and raise public goods expense.
