The Relationship among Germination Characteristic and Moisture Content and Storage Methods in Ginkgo Seeds

Abstract

With two common varieties of Shandong province as the test materials, the relationship among germination characteristic and moisture content and storage methods was studied in Ginkgo Seeds. The results showed that the germination energy of seeds in Longyan and Meiheafter were 81.7 % and 90.5% respectively, the germination percentage of seeds after harvested in Longyan and Mei- heafter were 85.1% and 90.5% respectively; the germination energy and germination percentage of seeds reduced rapidly with dehydra- tion of seeds, and the seed moisture content was less than 30%, basically its germination ability lost. By comparison with newly harvested seeds, the germination ability,vigor and moisture content of seeds increased slightly after half- year sand storage; the germination ability and vigor of seeds decreased significantly after half- year freezer storage, but the decrease of its moisture content was not obvious. The rate of embryoless seeds after stored had no change with seeds before stored.
