Abstract

The coagulation/dissolved air flotation(DAF) process and coagulation/sedimentation process were used to treat the prechloridized water in a waterworks of Tianjin, and the removal efficiency of trihalomethanes(THMs) and trihalomethane formation potential(THMFP) was investigated. The results show that the removal rates of THMs and THMFP by coagulation/DAF process are 37% and 55% respectively, being 18% and 21% higher than those by coagulation/sedimentation process(19% and 34%).After DAF process, the ratio of UV254/TOC in water is decreased significantly, which shows that the proportion of THMFP in organic mater is decreased significantly, and the formation of THMs during the follow-up chlorination disinfection process is reduced obviously. The removal effect of algae by coagulation/DAF process is better than that by coagulation/sedimentation process, and the removal effect of algae is better at high ξ-potential.
