Abstract
Objective To explore the action of moxibustion on the immunologic function of the colonic mucosa of crohn’s disease (CD) rats and its possible mechanism by observing the influence of moxibustion on the expressions of MCP-1 and IL-8 proteins in the colonic mucosa of CD rats. Methods A rat CD model was made using international accepted Morris method. The animals were randomly allocated to normal control, model, medicinal moxibustion, mild moxibustion, moxa stick moxibustion and hot water moxibustion groups. The expressions of MCP-1 and IL-8 proteins in the colonic mucosa of the rats were examined by an immunohistochemical method. Results Both the total area and the integral optical density of the positive expressions of MCP-1 and IL-8 proteins in the colonic mucosa increased significantly in the model group of rats compared with the normal control group (P 0.01). Both the total area and the integral optical density of the positive expressions of MCP-1 and IL-8 proteins in the colonic mucosa of CD rats decreased significantly after medicinal moxibustion and mild moxibustion (P0.01). Conclusion Medicinal moxibustion and mild moxibustion can down-regulate the expressions of MCP-1 and IL-8 proteins in the colonic mucosa of CD rats.
