Abstract

Under the condition of strong alkalinity potassium permanganate and phenol will react. After the reaction the absorbency in the range of 800-900nm,which is almost due to the produced MnO42-,is positively related to the initial concentration of phenol. The correlation between the absorbency at 845nm of the solution after the reaction and the initial concentration of phenol shows excellent linearity of Abs = 0.03292C + 0.07034(R=0.9954).The constructed method can be directly used for the determination of phenol during the photo-catalytic degradation of phenol.
