Comparison on clinical efficacies of Mason type-III radial head fracture treated with excision and mini-steel plate internal fixation

Objective To evaluate the clinical effects of Mason type-Ⅲ radial head fracture treated with head of radius excision and mini-steel plate internal fixation so as to provide reference for clinical therapy.Methods The 56 cases diagnosed as Mason type-Ⅲ radial head fracture were randomly selected from January 2008 to May 2011 in No.89 hospital of PLA,and divided into two groups: observation group(treated with ministeel plate internal fixation,n=32) and control group(treated with excision of radius head,n=24);and the functional evaluation of elbow between two groups was carried out by myodynamia,stability,deformity,motion and pain of elbow joint according to the Broberg and Morrey functional elbow index.Results All of the cases were followedup for 6 to 30 months(averaged 17 months).According to the evaluation results,the good and excellent rate in observation group was 87.5%;while the control group was 75.0%,there was statistically difference between two groups(P0.05).Conclusion The clinical effect with mini-steel plate internal fixation for the treatment of Mason type Ⅲ radial head fracture is satisfactory.
