Diagnosis and treatment of testicular torsion:a report of 45 cases

ObjectiveTo improve the diagnosis and treatment of testicular torsion.MethodThe clinical data of 20 cases of testicular torsion were analyzed retrospectively.ResultsFire patients were misdiagnosed on their primary visit.Twenty underwent orchiectomy because of necrosis of the testicle,including 8 intrascrotal torsion.The other 10 were treated by orchidopexy.ConclusionThe manifestation of testicular torsion can be confusing with other acute scrotum.When a sudden acute scrotum pain occurres in an adolescent,the testicular torsion must be considered until p roved otherwise.Color Doppler ultrasonography is the key to the diagnosis.Timely surgical exploration should be performed in the cases of acute scrotal problem suspected of testicular torsion.
