Diagnosis and treatment of testicular torsion(report of 45 cases)

Objective To improve the diagnosis and treatment of testicular torsion.Methods The clinical data of 45 cases of testicular torsion were analyzed retrospectively.Results Nineteen patients were misdiagnosed on their primary visit.28 underwent orchiectomy because of necrosis of the testicle,including 26 intrascrotal torsion and 2 crytorchidism with torsion.The other 17 were treated by orchidopexy.Conclusions The manifestation of testicular torsion can be confusing with other acute scrotum.When a sudden acute scrotum pain occurres in an adolescent,the testicular torsion must be considered until proved otherwise.Color Doppler ultrasonography is the key to the diagnosis.Timely surgical exploration should be performed in the cases of acute scrotal problem suspected of testicular torsion.
