Abstract

Objective:To explore the efficacy and safety of citalopram in the treatment of patients with depression. Method:60 patients with depression were randomly assigned to citalopram group and maprotiline group for six weeks.Hamilton depressive scale(HAMD)、Hamilton anxiety scale(HAMA) and treatment emergent symptom scale(TESS) were used to assess the clinical efficacy and side effects. Results:The significant improvement rate of citalopram was 83.3% and that of maprotiline was 76.7%.There was no significant difference between the two groups. The score of HAMA was reduced more in citalopram group than in maprotiline group. The adverse reactions of citalopram were lower and lighter than that of maprotiline. Conclusion:Citalopram is an effective antidepressant with fewer side effects and takes effect rapidly.
