Abstract
Aim: To study a simple, reliable ultrasonic method to measure the fetal weight. Methods: (1) Study the relationship between ultrasonic measurement of the fetal biparietal diameter (BPD), head circumference (HC), femur length(FL), abdominal circumference(AC) and neonatal birth weight in 280 cases. (2) Prospective study of ultrasonic measurement in the estimation of fetal weight in 300 cases. Results: There was significant correlation between fetal abdominal circumference, the sum of biparietal diameter plus femur length and neonatal birth weight. The formula used for estimat fetal weight is: m BW =( BPD + l FL ) l AC 2/5.8. Conclusion: The ultrasonic measurement of fetal AC and (BPD+FL) is a simple and valuable index in estimat fetal birth weight. [
