Abstract

Objective:To study the effects of milk powder containing chromium and propolis on blood glucose in experimental diabetic mice. Methods:The models of experimental diabetic mice were established by injecting allocon through caudal vein, and animals were randomly divided into four groups: low dose group(0.5 g/kg),middle dose group(1.0 g/kg),high dose group(3.0 g/kg) and diabetic group, according to the level of blood glucose.Meanwhile, normal animals selected were divided into normal control group and high dose group(3.0 g/kg).The level of blood glucose was determined after being given milk powder containing chromium and propolis and distilled water by intragastrical gavage for 30 days continuously. Results:Significant differences were observed between high dose group and diabetic group in fasting blood glucose, postchallenge blood glucose at 2 hour and area under the curve of blood glucose.Milk powder containing chromium and propolis had no effects on fasting blood glucose of normal mice. Conclusion:Milk powder containing chromium and propolis can reduce the level of blood glucose in experimental diabetic mice under this experimental condition.
