Abstract
The co-infection of PRRSV(porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus) and PCV-2(porcine circovirus type 2) is common in pigs and causes significant economical losses to the swine industry worldwide.A reliable method to simultaneously detect these two viruses is demanded.Based on the whole genome sequences of PRRSV North America strains(PRRSV-I),PRRSV European strains(PRRSV-II),PCV-2 deposited in the GenBank, three pairs of specific primers were designed to amplify the respective genes.A multiplex PCR were then developed and optimized to detect the PRRSV-I,PRRSV-II and PCV-2.The whole procedure can be completed within 24 hours. Results have shown that this method is highly specific, sensitive, efficient and cost-effective.These features have made it suitable for quick analysis and characterization of a large quantity of samples.
