Abstract

Objective To investigate the effect of Astragalus polysaccharides on the cell cycle of liver cancer cell strain BEL-7404 and the cytotoxicity of Astragalus polysaccharides combined with Cisplatin. Methods The inhibitory effect of Astragalus polysaccharides on liver cancer cells' proliferation was tested by the method of MTT.The cell cycle and the apoptosis was analyzed by flow cytometry. Results The growth and proliferation of liver cancer cell were inhibited by Astragalus polysaccharides.Simultaneous treatment with Astragalus polysaccharides and Cisplatin had a synergistic inhibitory effect.FCM analysis showed hypodiploid apoptosis peak after the liver cancer cells were treated with Astragalus polysaccharides. Conclusion Astragalus polysaccharides has cytotoxicity effect on liver cancer cells and it has a synergistic inhibitory effect on tumor, when combined with Cisplatin.
