Abstract
Aim: To study the roles of Caspase-3 and PTEN and their possible relationship in pathogenesis and development of oral lichen planus(OLP).Methods: 28 OLP and 5 normal oral mucosa samples were analyzed for the expression of Caspase-3 and PTEN,using the S-P immunohistochemical technique.Results: Caspase-3 was found in both the epithelial layer and the lamina propria of all OLP cases,and was significantly higher levels than that in normal oral mucosal tissues(P0.01).The positive rates of PTEN determined in both normal oral mucosa and OLP cases were 100%,and showed no significant difference between both groups(P0.05).The expression of Caspase-3 was positively correlated to PTEN in OLP(P 0.05).Conclusion: Our findings suggest that both Caspase-3 and PTEN may play a role in the pathogenesis and development of OLP,and there is a relationship between them.
