Relationship between removable partial denture wearing and oral health related quality of life

Abstract

Objective To investigate the changes in oral health related quality of life among elderly partial edentulous patients before and after removable dentures treatment.Methods A total of 154 partial edentulous subjects averaged at 63.89 years in dental clinic were assessed by using Chinese version of geriatric oral health assessment index(GOHAI) questionnaire.Data collected before and 3 months after receiving the dentures were statistically analyed.Results The changes in scores of physical function,psychological function and total score of GOHAI before and 3 months after denture insertion were statistically significant.Conclusion Removable partial denture treatment could improve the impaired oral health related quality of life of elderly partial edentulous patients who had experienced considerable teeth loss.
