Abstract

Objective To investigate the cause and prevention of recurrence of lower extremity varicose veins after endovenous laser treatment(EVLT).Methods Clinical data of 353 cases(415 limbs)with lower extremity varicose veins were analysed. Results Thirty-eight cases(40 limbs) recurred affer EVLT and the recurrent rate was 9.64%.Eighteen limbs were induced by dysfunction of perforating veins,14 limbs by reopening of great saphenous vein(GSV),5 limbs by residual trunk of lesser saphenous vein(LSV),2 limbs by primary deep venous insufficiency(PDVI) and 1 limb by double GSV malformation.Thirty eight cases were reoperated and had no recurrence during the followed-up from 1 to 4 years. Conclusion Selecting proper procedures according to the etiology and extent of varicose veins, management of perforating veins and high ligation of GSV might be the key points to avoid recurrence.
