Abstract
Objective To investigate the causes of recurrence and reoperation methods of lower extremity varicose veins after endovenous laser treatment(EVLT).Methods Clinical data of 305 cases(350 limbs)with lower extremity varicose veins were analyzed retrospectively. Results Twenty-seven cases(28 limbs) recurred after EVLT and the recurrent rate was 8%.Seven limbs were induced by dysfunction of perforating veins,5 limbs by primary deep venous insufficiency (PDVI),3 limbs by primary deep venous insufficiency with dysfunction of perforating veins,5 limbs by reopening of great saphenous vein,7 limbs residual varicose or local recurrence and 1 limb by double GSV malformation.Twenty-eight cases were reoperated and had no recurrence during the follow-up of 6 months to 4.5 years. Conclusion The causes of recurrence of lower extremity varicose veins after EVLT are very complicated, usually involving three venous systems. The pre-operative overall image examination and the choice of correct operation are keys to avoiding the post-operative recurrence of varicose veins.
