Abstract

Ti(C,N)-based cermets reinforced by nano-BN particles were prepared by a microwave sintering technology under N2 gas atmosphere.Effect of different content of nano-BN on transverse rupture strength(TRS)and hardness of the cermet was studied.Microstructure of this material was analyzed by SEM with BSE.Result shows the addition of nano-BN particles has obvious strengthening effect on the property of this cermet. The ttransverse rupture strength and hardness of the cermet are improved to about 21.6% and 1.6%,respectively,when the content of nano-BN particles is 1.5% in weight. The addition of nano-BN particles baffles the dissolution of Ti(C,N).The micrograph on fracture surface of this cermet shows a cleavage fracture.
