Abstract

Ti(C,N)-based cermets reinforced by nano-Si3N4 particle were prepared by microwave sintering in argon gas atmosphere. The effects of nano-Si3N4 content on the transverse rupture strength(TRS) and hardness of the cermet were studied. The microstructure of this material was analyzed by SEM with BSE.The results show that the addition of nano-Si3N4 particle has important effects on the property of the cermet. The hardness and transverse rupture strength of the cermet improves by 2.0%,25.7%,respectively,when the content of nano-Si3N4 particles is 1.0wt%.It can be attributed to the addition of nano-Si3N4 particles promoting the dissolution of Ti(C,N),which leads to the finer black-core and grain, and form more microstructure with white core-gray rim in this cermet than others.
