Correlation of PTEN and P27 protein expression and clinicopathological features of gastric carcinoma

Abstract

Objective To investigate the correlation of PTEN and P27 protein expression with the clinicopathological features of gastric carcinoma,and the correlation between expression of PTEN and P27 in carcinoma of the stomach.Methods PTEN and P27 protein expression was evaluated in the tissue of 65 human gastric carcinoma as well as 20 cases normal gastric mucosa using immunohistochemistry(SP method).Results The PTEN labeling frequency in gastric carcinoma(47.69%) was significantly lower than that in normal gastric mucosa(100%,P0.05).the PTEN protein expression in gastric carcinoma was positively correlated with poor differentiation(r=-0.2907,P0.05),deep invasion(r=-0.2615,P0.05),lymph node metastasis(r=-0.2597,P0.05),and clinical staging(r=-0.2577,P0.05).P27 labeling frequency in gastric carcinoma(41.54%) was significantly lower than that in normal gastric mucosa(95%,P0.05),The P27 protein expression was also correlated with poor differentiation(r=-0.2608,P0.05),deep invasion(r=-0.3231,P0.05),lymph node metastasis(r=-0.2833,P0.05),and clinical staging(r=-0.3031,P0.05).PTEN expression was positive correlated with P27 in gastric carcinoma.Conclusion The decrease of P27 protein expression caused by the deletion and descent of PTEN protein expression cannot effectively play an anti-oncogene role in negative regulation of the cell cycle,which makes the tumor cells more malignant.
