Abstract

Objective To evaluate the visual outcomes in patients after the implantation of ReSTOR multifocal intraocular lens(MIOL).Methods After phacoemulsification,ReSTOR MIOL(SN60D3) was inserted into the eye in 28 cases(30 eyes, test group);single-focal intraocular lens(SIOL,SN60AT) was inserted into the eye in 26 cases(30 eyes, control group).Measurements were taken at 1 week and 3 months postoperatively, including uncorrected distance visual acuity(UCDVA),best-corrected distance visual acuity(BCDVA),uncorrected near visual acuity(UCNVA),distance-corrected near visual acuity(DCNVA),operative complications, independence on spectacles. Results UCDVA and BCDVA in the multifocal group were not statistically different from the monofocal group(P0.05).The proportion of patients that achieved a UCDVA of 0.5 or better was 94.65% in both groups at 3 months postoperatively.UCNVA and DCNVA were statistically better in the multifocal group compared to the monofocal group(P0.05).A higer proportion in the multifocal group achieved 0.5 or better uncorrected near visual acuity and 0.5 or better best distance-corrected near visual acuity than in the monofocal group(71.28% versus 5.12%,71.28% versus 13.98%).Conclusion The ReSTOR multifocal intraocular lens may proved excellent distance and near visual acutiy and improvde quality of life for patiens after phacoemulsification.
