Abstract
Objective To evaluate visual quality and pseudoaccommodation in patients after the implantation of an apodized diffractive multifocal intraocular lens (MIOL). Methods Forty patients (46 eyes) with age-related cataract were divided into two groups. GroupⅠwas the multifocal group: 20 cases (23 eyes),ReSTOR SA60D3 MIOL was implanted after phacoemulsification; Group Ⅱ was the monofocal group: 20 cases (23 eyes),Natural SN60AT monofocal intraocular lens (SIOL) was implanted after phacoemulsification. Measurements were taken at 1 week and 3 months postoperatively,including uncorrected distance visual acuity (UCDVA),best-corrected distance visual acuity (BCDVA),uncorrected near visual acuity (UCNVA),best-corrected near visual acuity (BCNVA),distance-corrected near visual acuity (DCNVA) and pseudoaccommodation. Results UCDVA and BCDVA in the multifocal group were not statistically different from the monofocal group (P0.05). The proportion of patients that achieved a UCDVA of 0.5 or better was 95.65% in both groups at 3 months postoperatively. UCNVA and DCNVA were statistically better in the multifocal group compared to the monofocal group (P0.05). A higher proportion in the multifocal group achieved 0.5 or better uncorrected near visual acuity and 0.5 or better best distance-corrected near visual acuity than in the monofocal group (69.57% versus 4.35%,69.57% versus 13.04%). Compared to the monofocal group,the multifocal group had better pseudoaccommodation (P0.05) (-3.54±1.05)D versus (-1.65±0.68)D. Conclusion The AcrysofReSTORapodized diffractive multifocal intraocular lens may provide excellent distance and near visual acuity,better pseudoaccommodation and improved quality of life for patients after phacoemulsification.
