Abstract

The poem Travel to the North by Feng Zhi(1905-1993)had not only recorded his experience and thoughts during his traveling to the north,but also expressed his sad sound of soul fission during his seek for truths.The poetic composition of this poem had shown that the poet had had a primary consciousness to explore the modernity,which could be proved by his explorations of how to express his sorrow about life,loneliness of individual existence,understanding of the secret about life and death and so on.This article attempts to discuss the modernity of Travel to the North from the influences of his past life,of the life reality and of the foreign philosophy.And the author thinks that such consciousness is a good preparation for his studies on existentialism philosophy and for the birth of The Sonnet in 1940s.
