Abstract
OBJECTIVE To discuss the methods and esthetic effects of correction of epicanthus by adopting the esthetic standards to design the new point of canthus and inclination angle of palpebral fissure.METHODS One hundred and forty-two cases whose eyelids and spaces between the canthuses didn't meet the esthetic standards were performed surgery.Firstly, measured the inclination angle of palpebral fissure, space between the canthuses and horizontal diameter of palpebral fissure;according to the measured data, designed the new point of canthus and new inclination angle of palpebral.Took the cutting around the eyelash.Cut the epicanthus parallel to the upper and lower eyelid to the new point of canthus.Separated the upper and lower eyelids, and sewed up the skins of the original and new points of canthus.Moved the upper and lower eyelids to the side direction.Cut the surplus skin and sewed up the incision.RESULTS Among 142 patients of this study,78 cases received the follow-up visit from 1 to 10 months, with good formation of new point of canthus, indistinct scar, longer palpebral fissure, basically equal between the horizontal diameter and the space between eyelids, and 8-10° inclination angle of palperal fissure. It met the esthetic standards.CONCLUSIONS The correction of epicanthus designed and implemented by the esthetic standards could achieve the little tissue trauma, indistinct scar and meet the esthetic standards of eyes well.It would be a good method for the correction of epicanthus.
