30-year Great Changes of Dunhuang Study

Since the very beginning,Dunhuang study has been closely connected with patriotism;it has become a criterion of international status of Chinese politics,economy and culture.The depression of Dunhuang study in China means the general depression of Chinese politics,economy and culture;the rapid development of Dunhuang study means radical improvement of Chinese politics,economy and culture.It is absolute truth.Dunhuang study in China can be approximately divided into five periods: establishment period(1908-1931),development period(1932-1966),stagnation period(1967-1977) and prosperity period(1978-2008).The present author has been doing Dunhuang study ever since the 1970s and has witnessed rapid development in China,especially in Dunhuang study.During the 30 years,JI Xian-lin founded Chinese Dunhuang and Turpan Society,CHANG Shu-hong and DUAN Wen-jie founded Dunhuang Study Academy,and JIANG Liang-fu and JIANG Li-hong set up Dunhuang seminars.Chinese Dunhuang study has achieved great success and attracted international attention.The author reviews and comments the 30-year development of Dunhuang study in China,indicating the positive influence of 30-year reform and opening upon Dunhuang study in China and in the world.
