Clinical Research of Guipi Decoction as Treatment for Heart-Spleen Deficiency Depression

Objective To investigate the clinical therapeutic effects of Guipi decoction for Heart-Spleen deficiency depression. Method Sixty cases were randomly divided into observation group and control group( n = 30 each). In observation group GuiPi decoction was given to the patients and in control group Fluoxetine was given. The treatment course continued 6 weeks. Hamilton rating scale for depression( HAMD),Traditional Chinese medicine( TCM) syndrome manifestations and Social disability screening schedule( SDSS) were measured to evaluate therapeutic effects on the 1st,2 nd,4 th and 6th week. Record the adverse reactions. Result The efficacy rate of TCM syndrome increased in both groups along with treatment time. On the 1st and the 2 nd week,the efficacy rate of observation group is higher than control group too( P 0. 01). There was no significant difference between the two groups on the 4th and 6th week. There was significant difference between before and after treatment in the proportion of patients with different degrees of depression in both groups( P 0. 01). There was no significant difference between the two groups in the proportion of patients with different degrees of depression. And there was no significant difference between the two groups in scores of SDSS on the 1st,2 nd,4 th and 6 th week. The rate of adverse reactions in GuiPi decoction group was lower than control group( P 0. 01). Conclusion Guipi decoction can significantly improve the TCM syndrome and social function of Heart-Spleen deficiency depression patients. The majority of the patients were cured or turned into subliminal depression after treatment by Guipi decoction. It's clinical therapeutic effects is as good as Fluoxetine,but it has fewer adverse reactions and faster onset of action. So Guipi decoction is a safe and effective treatment for Heart-Spleen deficiency depression.
