Abstract
Based on GIS, the spatial progress of the land use in Jinjiang City from 1996 to 2001 is revealed; according to the grey correlation theory, the social driving forces of land use and change are analysed with the help of the counting software DPS. The result shows: since 1996, the range of the land use change is very large; in detail, cultivated land, forest land and un-used land reduce greatly, but water body, build-up land and orchard have a net increase. As far as the regional difference are concerned, the regional difference of un-used land and orchard change is obvious, while that of cultivated land, build-up land and forest land is slight. Further more, the result tell us that the economic factor is the dominate one leading to the change. Then the population factor follows, and the end is the technological factor. Of course, the intervention function of the policy factor can`t be ignored.
