Abstract
Objective To explore the changes of C-reactive protein (CRP) in senior patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS) and the significance of elevated CRP level in pathogenesis of ACS. Methods Peripheral blood samples were collected from 70 coronary artery disease (CAD) patients, 54 males and 16 females, aged (67.8±12.4) (65~88), 45 with ACS and 25 with stable angina pectoris (UAP). The 45 ACS patients included 22 cases of acute myocardial infarction (AMI) and 23 cases of unstable angina pectoris (UAP). Thirty persons without CAD were used as controls. Ratenephelometry was used to measure the CRP level. Results The CRP level of the ACS group was (17.68±6.32) mg/L, significantly higher than those of the SAP group and control group [( 5.46±4.73 ) mg/L and (3.58±2.87)mg/L respectively, both P0.05 ]. The CRP level of the AMI patients was (24.18±12.3) mg/L, significantly higher than that of the UAP patients [(11.38±6.96) mg/L, P0.01]. Conclusion CRP level can be used as an index for evaluating the existence of ACS.
