Laser in situ keratomileusis for compound myopic astigmatism with a scanning spot excimer laser

Abstract

Objectives To evaluate the efficacy of excimer laser in situ keratomileusis(LASIK) in correcting compound myopic astimatism with a scanning spot excimer laser.Methods Two hundred and eight cases (308 eyes) with compound myopic astigmtism that underwent LASIK with laser LSX during Feb.1999 to Jul.2000 were studied retrospectively.All cases were divided into three groups according to the refractive cylinder, and followed up for 1 day, 1 week, 1 month and 3 months to 6 months after surgery.Results The mean astigmatism 6 months after operation was (0.31±0.23) D,(0.61±0.41)D and (1.68±0.57)D, respectively. Angles between pre and post-operative astigmatic axes were less than 10 degree(10°).There was no difference between visual acuity at 6 month after operation and the best corrected visual acuity before operation.Conclusion LASIK for correcting compound myopic astigmatism with a scanning spot excimer laser was effective.The correcting astigmatic axes were accurate.But some regression had been observed in high astigmatism group at 1 week to 1 month , and prolonged for 3 months after surgery.
