Abstract

Were peasants the impetus or the obstruction of the revolution of the proletariat and socialist construction? Writers of Marxist classics had ever made their classical conclusions, in which peasants were considered to be persons of class dual character or persons of innate defects. The negative aspects such as reaction and backward were greatly exaggerated. In the process of utilizing Marxist theory in China, Mao Zedong accommodated them to times and situation, opened up new path, made innovations and looked at peasant dialectically . On that ground, he took peasants as the basic strength of revolution and construction. He thought peasants were not only the main force of revolution but also the basic strength of socialist construction. Today, power of peasants' theory of Mao Zedong thought still has vigorous practical significance.
