Abstract

Objective:To study the effects of attenuated BCG vaccine on cytokines in children with asthma.Methods:40 patients with acute asthma were divided into two groups: control or intervention groups, all patients were managed according to Global Initiative for Asthma guidelines, patients in intervention group (n=20) were also vaccinated subcutaneously with attenuated BCG vaccine. The levels of IL-2, IL-12, IFN-γ derived from peripheral. blood mononuclear cells (PBMC) and serum IgE were measured by ELISA before and after treatment. Results:After treatment, the levels of IL-2, IL-12, IFN-γ were increased (P0.01) in two groups, and the levels of IgE were decreased in two groups(P0.01).There were no significant differences in the levels of IL-2 ,IL-12,IFN-γ,IgE between control and intervention groups (P0.05).Conclusion:There were no significant effects of attenuated BCG vaccine (5×104 CFU ) on the elevated levels of IL-2,IL-12, IFN-γ, IgE in 3~12 years old patients with asthma.
