Abstract
Objective To explore a transcallosal-interfornix approach to remove the tumors of the third ventricle. Methods Under the operative microscope, eighteen patients with third ventricle tumors were operated via the approach of transcallosum-interfornix. Results The tumors were totally removed in 13 cases, subtotally in 3 cases, and partially in 2 cases,no operative death. Conclusion The trans-frontal-callosal--interforniceal approach is one of the best choice for the third ventricle tumors, the tumors which located at the anterior, middle, or posterior portion of the third ventricle can be removed via this approach. This approach provide a quite large operative field, direct corridor, natural space, rate of total tumors removed is high, the postoperative com-plications are rare.
