Research on the Songs Chanted by the People of Lu in Zuozhuan

The poetic songs were often chanted on occasions of worshiping and meetings, replying and rewarding among feudal princes and assistant ministers of principalities in the Spring-and-Autumn Period. The Songs chanted by the people of Lu were of the largest number, compared with the other kingdoms; they regarded chanting songs as the means of political and social exchange, so they were adepter at it. Chanting songs was an important part of the development of ceremonies and music. It was also the basis of the boom of Lu people composing poems.
