Status of Continuing Medical Education for General Practitioners in Chongqing and Its Countermeasure

Abstract

Objective To investigate and analyze the status of continuing medical education for general practitioners(GP) in Chongqing so as to gradually solve the existing problems in the medical education,and to provide a guide for carrying out continuing medical education project for general practitioners in the future.Methods A total of 172 GPs randomly selected from the trainees of 2011 general practitioner backbone training projects(in Yongchuan Hospital Base,and in Base of the First Affiliated Hospital of Chongqing Medical University),and 14 from a community health service center in Chongqing.Among them a questionnaire survey was performed.Results The working duration of the participants was 1-35 years,with a median of 7 years.In terms of general medical continuing education training experience,21 GPs(11.29%) had no such experience,and 165(88.71%) had such experience previously;133 GPs(71.50%) voluntarily applied,and 53(28.50%) were not;there were 159 GPs(85.48%) whose working institutions gave them support,6(3.23%) whose institutions did not give them support,and 21(11.29%) whose institutions took an indifferent attitude.Conclusion To ensure the continuing medical education for GPS in Chongqing smoothly,it is necessary to raise investment by the government,increase the education project settings,enhance the understanding of GPs on continuing medical education for active learning,and strengthen the GPs′ professional ethics and pay attention to the education on humanistic quality for on-the-job personnel.
