Abstract
Objective To know the construction workers' current attitudes and behaviors related to HIV/AIDS, and the health educational effects for preventing and control among construction workers in Tongling. Methods Cluster sampling was used to recruite 500 workers from 10 construction sites in Tongling to intervene with the method of health education, and the information about the workers' understandings on AIDS knowledge, their attitudes and behaviors before and after the intervention were collected by questionnaire on the spot. Results 309 questionnaires before intervention and 487 questionnaires after intervention were obtained. The total knowing rate increased to 83.9% (P0.05) after intervention in comparison with 46.3% before intervention. The attitude towards HIV/AIDS infected people has statistical change (P0.05). Conclusions Health educational intervention measures on construction workers can effectively increase their AIDS knowledge level and improve their attitude towards AIDS virus carriers. The next step focused on health education is to low down the happening rate of unsafe sexual behaviors and increase the usage rate of condoms.
